Your Favorite Class (February 2011)
OK, OK, fine. Not everybody is crazy about math. Even the most nimble number geniuses need a break every now and then. So Mimi wants to know: what's your favorite part of school? Is it a subject? (MATH!) Is it a class? (MR. AL GEBRA'S MATH CLASS!) Is it a certain textbook? (CALCULUS FOR TEN AND UNDER!) Tell us all about it.

I like literature... its pretty awsome... and my favorite part of school (non-academic) is LUNCH! Cuz I like to talk to my friends, and I love to eat!
(February 3, 2011 - 5:26 pm)
Umm.... Civics? I like civics.
(February 4, 2011 - 12:03 pm)
I disagree. I am everybody and I am crazay about math.
...Or maybe I'm just crazy.
(February 4, 2011 - 4:54 pm)
I like math too!
(February 11, 2011 - 4:28 pm)
Well my favorite is gym. It's nothing but fun. You get exercise and play fun games.
(February 4, 2011 - 5:08 pm)
There are two types of people in the world: Those who like gym class and those who don't.
I just recently thought of this, and I have been waiting FOREVER to say it.
(May 12, 2011 - 2:46 pm)
Don't forget the crazy people.
(May 16, 2011 - 3:23 pm)
OH MY GOSH!! I LOVE GYM TOO! I thought I was the only one who actually appreciates it. My friends think I'm crazy for having PE as a favorite subject.
(November 5, 2011 - 11:42 am)
I love math and science! I can't wait to get this issue! I haven't gotten it yet, sigh....
(February 5, 2011 - 10:15 am)
Nevermind, I got it about a half hour ago!
(February 5, 2011 - 5:17 pm)
My favorite subject is writings, because I just love to use my imagination to make up different worlds and people. I only have one teacher who teaches every suject. Go writing!!!
(February 5, 2011 - 12:01 pm)
Writing's okay, and I am passable at it, but I really don't see why people like it so much....
(February 5, 2011 - 5:20 pm)
Adele, I like writing too! Especially imaginative writing. I love to write stories.
(February 20, 2011 - 8:36 pm)
I like writing novels and the occasional short story, but BLEARGH. The rest (nonfiction, research papers, persuasive letters to the governer about things the governer doesn't care about), GRRRRRRRR. But I <3 writing fiction.
(May 12, 2011 - 2:49 pm)
FICTION WRITING <3 <3 <3

I like Science. My favorite teacher (Mr. Carson) teaches it. i like how he shows how science is relevent in our every day lives. I also like social studies. We are learning about ancient Greece!
(February 8, 2011 - 5:27 pm)
I love ancient greece!
(February 14, 2011 - 3:57 pm)
Me too! i love mythology (i am homeschooled)
(February 28, 2011 - 11:57 pm)
I find it extremely enjoyable to go on a ride about the country sometimes in a mobile wagon. Not an immoble one, but a mobile one. We would jottle and scrape in our seats until the Berg-Fairies did not smile, ho ho, what a time! And then the post man... oh I cannot tell you of his grand exploits, but mark my words, if you would listen to the colors of the wind my dear, we would-
wait. have you asked a question?
oh.
that's awkward.
i was rambling.
um... Language Arts.
(February 12, 2011 - 6:25 pm)
i like band, french, history, and lunch. gum rox!
(February 13, 2011 - 1:52 pm)
I'd have to say my lunch hour, followed by free period(s) with breaks coming in third </kidding
I actually like math, I just never seem to reap the full benefit from math class. It's hard until I figure it out and then it's boring. Since I'm trying to keep my notes neat this year, something I haven't managed since 4th grade, it's torturous.
As for other subjects… the one class and subject I actually like where the class is awesome too is latin, because our teacher is amazing. Our chemistry teacher is really cool too, but I'm constantly humbled by my ignorance as far as chemistry is concerned- I hate it when classes make me feel stupid, though at least I'm learning a lot.
As for textbooks, I'd have to say my favorite one is the math textbook. I can just read the textbook's explanation of what we're doing when the teacher rambles off again, because sometimes the way she explains things just seems like she's making everything a lot more complicated than it actually is. The history textbook is nice too, useful, but there are several ones that I loathe. First and foremost are the english textbooks. We have two new ones this year, both of them are large and unnecessarily heavy and filled with incredibly superficial themes or boring and superficial treatment of interesting themes. Thankfully, they don't have endless grammar sections*. Secondly, the chemistry book is sweet but useless since it states mainly obvious facts that I knew already and not the tricky questions the teacher often sets us. For instance, after 1,5 years of chemistry I kinda figured out that oxygen is a colorless, odorless gas, but I don't know the volume-percentage of ozone in the ozone layer. As for the physics book, the sketches which the teacher draws on the blackboard anyway are very nice and all, but there are nearly no explanations and the pretty color pictures of things rather irrelevant to the subject (yes, I figured there are waves at sea. Now wtf are oscillators?). And third, the german textbooks. There are two of them. One we use about once every two months, the other we've accidentally had for 3 years and only used once. The first is about the history of german literature, though it would be a lot easier to use if it was organized strictly chronologically and had some sort of timeline in front. Also, there should be a distinction between the main, relevant phases and small sidearms such as visual lyric that no-one has ever heard of before or will ever need, at least not the German versions.
* goes off to do homework *
*By now you're probably wondering a) why I have so many subjects and b) why I hate grammar. The reason is that I live in Vienna, Austria, and go to school there as well. The system is slightly different: there's less freedom to choose your own classes and you have more classes because each class is only 2-3x a week instead of every day. Also, I have german as "native language" in class and am forced to take British english as a foreign language. I speak American english, though thankfully my teacher is very merciful and allows American spelling as well.
Please don't copy and paste text here from Word or other programs. Thanks! --Ed.
(February 15, 2011 - 10:46 am)
I like Latin too! It is NOT a dead language!
(July 18, 2011 - 9:27 pm)

(February 19, 2011 - 7:20 pm)
Well, considering the fact that I just DOMINATED two math competitions, I like math. But not huge shakes (eww, don't ask)
(February 19, 2011 - 7:21 pm)
My favorite classes are History, Music, and Art. This year in History we are going to learn about ancient civilizations! YAY!!! I am going to choose greeks. I love greeks.

I LOVE ANCIENT GREECE!
(February 21, 2011 - 3:09 pm)
I HATE GYM CLASS. THEY MADE ME DO A STUPID DANCE ROUTINE. I HATE DANCING. *goes and hits head against a wall* *goes and hits a wall against head* Better now...
I like...TALKING ABOUT MY OBSESSIONS TO MYSELF. IN MY HEAD. Or anyone who, by some not-so-small miracle of the Universe, actually likes Pokemon, Star Wars, Dragonball Z, cat warriors, or coming-up-with-names-personalities-and-backstories-to random-characters-that-pop-into-my-head-when-I'm-sitting-around-bored-out-of-my-wits as much as I do. Ehehe.
(February 21, 2011 - 3:31 pm)
WHAT??!! (interrobang) you dont like dancing?????!!!!! thats the worst thing you could ever say! alright, i vote to form an alliegence! all peeps who love dancing, be it ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, modern, ANYTHING, please comment and join me to fight world non-dance loving!!!
(February 27, 2011 - 6:12 pm)
The exception being when you have to dance to Justin Bieber for science class.
(May 12, 2011 - 2:51 pm)
I like dancing, just so no one has to see it.
(this means i did not like the dancing in science class)
(May 16, 2011 - 3:35 pm)
OMG! (Which was accepted into the dictionary today!) Your personality matches mine. I like Star Wars, Pokemon, I don't know what Dragonball Z is, I AM a cat warrior, and love inventing random characters and backstories! PS: I HATE daning. Meet me at fullmoon at the Skyrock, and we can plot the downfall of dancing! MWAHAHAHAHA...
(March 27, 2011 - 3:18 pm)
Dear Mango,
YOU ARE SO LUCKY YOU ONLY HAVE TO DO DANCING IN GYM. AT MY SCHOOL, WE HAD TO COME UP WITH A DANCE ROUTINE EXPLAINING WHAT WE LEARNED ABOUT PHYSICS.
ABSOLUTE TORTURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S.---I love Star Wars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(May 16, 2011 - 3:33 pm)

(February 21, 2011 - 8:08 pm)
SCIENCE IS TOTALLY THE BEST!! I love experimenting. :D
But math rocks, too. You need it to do science.
(February 26, 2011 - 10:58 am)
Social Studies is awesome. Last week, my average was 102.5 (or at least I think it is, it's hard to tell when you've smothered it in pie.)
(February 26, 2011 - 8:32 pm)
WHAT??? How on earth can you pretend to be Koko? thats so mean! although... i do see the light... we could have muse day! everyone can turn into a muse and live in the pages of our favorite mag! I'll be Mimi!
(February 27, 2011 - 6:16 pm)
CAN I BE BO?
(May 16, 2011 - 3:38 pm)
Computer class. It is so much fun! They should write an article about computer programming, the glitches and loopholes in Windows, and the far-too-easy-to-hack-SonicWall. :D
(February 27, 2011 - 3:34 pm)
i like reading, writting and history! also lunch. (i eat a lot but am still skinny)
(March 1, 2011 - 12:00 am)
ME TOO! i never get fat, but i also almost never stop eating! high five!
(March 5, 2011 - 2:35 pm)
I... uh.... actually don't mind math so much. Unless there's a test. Or it's particularly complicated algebra (which is happening slightly less than usual now, which explains the general friendliness towards math.) Geometry is cool, unless I'm doing that ridiculous sin/tan/cos thing *shudders*. I like ratios, and SIMPLE algebra (key word is "simple". Like, 3 * x = 15. Everyone who's done algebra knows that the answer is fifteen. [Do you mean five? --Ed.] Easy. Once you go into 3x + 4y + (17 * 8) - 2 = 85 territory I lose all interest.)
Science is okay. I'm learning about plate tectonics right now (yay!), but I had a disasterous experience with physics last year and I'm still recovering.
I LOVE art. You get to doodle/draw/paint all through class. It's the best. :)) And next year I might get to do a course on computer graphics or web design for art. Sweet!
I hate grammer with a fiery passion. It's the most boring, time consuming subject ever to curse the planet with its presence. Meh.
I also LOVE newspaper! It's so cool. Except for the word limits. Deadlines I can deal with, but as proven by the fact that this comment is more of an essay, I tend to get a little word-y....
I also like reading (sorry, "literature" *ahem*) but I have a giant looming semester test tomorrow, so... yeah. I should probably go study or something. Adios, peoples!
(March 1, 2011 - 9:54 pm)
Yes! Darn it! I meant five! Not fifteen! I knew that! Arrrgh... that was stupid. >.<
(March 2, 2011 - 4:32 pm)
I LOVEEEEE LITERACY (OR LANGUAGE ARTS) READ AND WRITE AND REVIE AND READ IS WHAT I DO ALL DAY LONG
(March 2, 2011 - 9:31 pm)
my favorit subrect is langage arts, even though i can't spell! i like vocabulary and reading as well as righting and sumerising storys. infact i like math to, and humanitys. i espesuly like humanitys becase i get to use langwage arts skills to learn about Genghis Khan and the Song dinesty. I encurage evryone to be interested in at least one Intilecuwel Subject.
(March 3, 2011 - 5:50 pm)
remember in the february issue, in the FM page, how that one teacher said that Urania is NOT A NAME?! some nerve! sheesh, someone really ought to teach her a Museology lesson! anybody have an idea as to how we can get her back for that? (Kokopelli's pie perhaps?) keep posting stuff!
p.s. i love cheese so lunch is DEFINETLEY the best subject, even though the lunch ladies do NOT BY ANY MEANS appreciate a new pie recipe and like you to test it out. peace, love, and pies 4 ever.
(March 4, 2011 - 9:11 pm)
Ok so really my favorite class is probably either literature or science. I LOVE READING! and i also like grammar a lot... I LOVE DIAGRAMING SENTENCES!
(March 5, 2011 - 1:11 pm)
My Favorite Class is Writer's Workshop.
I Can Write in Iambic Pentameter There.
I Can Avoid Haiku There.
That is Not Haiku.
You Are Just Counting Syllables.
Stop It this Instant.
(March 6, 2011 - 11:34 pm)
ha ha ha ha ha i love that i started counting syllables in the middle... lol! thats really awsome.
(March 11, 2011 - 8:47 am)
i love science and history. its fun to learn funny mistakes, mishaps, and slipups of dead people
(March 10, 2011 - 10:01 pm)
i agree about laughing about dead people's stupididy. everythin else is kinda boring, though
(April 2, 2011 - 5:10 pm)

(March 12, 2011 - 1:00 pm)

(June 15, 2011 - 5:18 am)
My favorite class? Hmm......... what if I have 2? Well then definitely Chamber Ensemble or Spanish. My school, being a charter school, has a variety of classes to sign up for. We have a lot of music and art classes, so last school year (2010/2011) I played viola in Orchestra 3. Since you have to audition or have your director's consent to move up a level in music, there weren't enough people to make an orchestra, but enough to make a piano quartet. I love playing chamber music, so this became one of my favorite classes! Language is not only one of my primary interests, but the spanish teacher at my school is amazing, so Spanish is also definitely one of my favorite classes. As for other favorite PARTS of my school, I like how my school is weird and has an optional dress-up day every Thursday. I also like eating lunch with my friend Savannah, who has provided inspiration for many comic strips that I have not yet created.
(July 18, 2011 - 9:20 pm)
Go writing!!!!! I mean, I don't hate math, but I've always LOVED writing!
(August 5, 2011 - 8:28 pm)
Well, I'm in 8th grade and there is a BIG difference between that and 7th grade. I love math, except when we have a test/quiz. I freak out! (Especially considering that I'm in advanced algebra, where we learn stuff like logarithms and such (not there yet though...) Science is also pretty awesome! Astronomy is the best though!Well in reading (Language arts) class, my teacher is amazing and we talk about all these contreversial subjects that causes my class to have a heated argument most of the time (I'm in a gifted class, and I think it's much more funner than the normal classes because you think outside the box and in a different perspective, which is what I love to do)! It's fun.History/social studies I'm not so keen about, but this year my teacher is SO funny, so it makes the class more amusing (we're doing the Constitution right now by the way).
I HATE gym, especially when we have to run (I also HATE running) But badminton and floor hockey are the fun sports.
We also have a Technology class, and it's crazy awesome (considering that I like science)
Ta ta for now!
(September 13, 2011 - 9:17 pm)
I LOVE reading and science!!!!!!!!!!!
(September 20, 2011 - 9:45 pm)
ART SCIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
