It's a Dog's Life (March 2010)

Dogs: Man's best friend, furry bundles of crazy, or superior intelligences? Describe your relationship with your dog. Do you ever get the sense that he or she is, as page 19 says, "lunging toward the future a step before" you? Or maybe you feel that way about your cat, iguana, or baby sister?

Dogs: furry packs of stupidity.  I intensely dislike them, except for when I don't.

I don't know-although I have cats, three of them, and one of them has to be part slinky...so does that count?

Seriously.  Slinky cats.  That's just awesome.

My cat. What can I say... he's old, he's grumpy, he eats sand(aka cat food pellets)

Dogs. What can I say...the big ones are much more philosophical than the tiny yappy ones. You know what I mean?

Dogs- I used to be afraid of them, but not anymore.

My neighbor's dog is deaf (and afraid of people), so the time I was running down the stairs and turned a corner we both flinched at the same time. Not ahead of me, possibly even a few seconds behind.

M (a friend) has a dog too, but when she charged me with minding it for a few minutes in a restaurant, it rolled over and played dead for the entire time. I still don't know why, only that it's very dedicated and very good at it.

Cats- Runny nose, faces swells up, windpipe swells up, trouble breathing- yep, I love having cats around.

Dogs: All of the above EXCEPT superior intelligences. Take my dog, Sascha, for an example. She is an avid human-lover! She can be the craziest thing, running around so you can hear her nails on the carpet. You may ask, "Why not superior intellegences?" Well, the answer to that is coming up. You see, we bought this life-size, cardboard standup of Edward for our New Moon release party. As soon as we took it out, she went MAD! She barked and woofed and growled. We have never seen her hair as high as it was sticking up. (She's a Doberman Pinscher, very territorial.) She still growls whenever she sees it, just a little. She also barfs in the pantry (where her food bowl is) all the time, for many reasons. If you don't take her out, or if you don't feed her on time. Before you take her out, she runs around in circles and sneezes near the door. Not superior intellegences, you see? (I aspire to be a vet one day, too.)

I have one cat and 2 dogs and all of them seem to be smart to some degree.  The 2-year old puppy is not nearly as smart as the wise, learned and philosophical 12-year old dog, and the cat seems to be somewhere in the middle on the brain scale.  I conclude that cats are smart in their own regal detached way and dogs are smart but can act dumb because of their feelings about us and food and things that interest them.  Peace out dawg! (and cat)

I have a cat. Sometime he the the dumbest thing you have ever seen, trying all four doors out of my house before he is satisfied that it is raining EVERYWHERE. And sometimes, he's actually really smart. I think that animals may have different senses or more advanced senses than humans and therefore seem really smart about some things (when a storm is coming, where to find drinkable water, ect.) but as to actual intellegence level . . . Where do you think the saying "birdbrain" came from?

I have two cats and a dog. One of my cats will eat paper. I am serious. Then my other cat will "talk" to the birds by kinda chirping. It's totally ninja.Ninja means cool in my town.

My dog is wonderfully smart. I mean SMART. Once, the oven sent off some smoke, and the smoke detector went off. My dog investigated, saw the smoke, and made sure everyone was okay. A few months later, the smoke detector went off in the middle of the night due to a low battery. as soon as my dog heard it, he ran into my sister's room, jumped onto her bed, and started licking her to wake her up(he would have done the same thing to me, I'm sure, but my door was closed). Now, who said dogs were dumb? Human babies probably couldn't do that!

My dog has to the dumbest animal on the planet. But he is sweet (and dumb). I am now going to make a list of what dogs are good for. (this will be a short list)

1. Living on pluto.

2. Walking into walls.

3. Nothing.

I still like dogs though.

I don't like dogs at all. They are either too big and slobber and jump on you and give you SCRAPES ALL OVER YOUR ARM AND FACE *glares at certain dog of friend* or are too small and yap a lot and squeal at everything and are downright annoying. The small ones are kinda cute though. But cats are NOT annoying, they are big enough not to be a pest and not too large that they slobber and knock you down, and they are a bit like guinea pigs in the fact that they can curl up in your lap and comfort you and are fluffy and awesome. Plus they have great reflexes. Unless they are fat. Which some people's cats are.

I have a (very) dumb dog and a guinea pig and the guinea pig makes the dog look like a genius. I've never had a normal animal or one that can learn tricks so I think I have a curse or something. Once, my dog chased a cat so fast, when he hit the end of his cable he did a flip!!! It took him about an hour to calm down but he was fine.

I agree with you 100% because I am a cat. I once did a back-flip, but only once.
