Icky Foods (July/August 2010)

Ok, so maybe the buttered mealworms and sibling appetizers in this month's issue weren't exactly your cup of tea. But to each his own, we say! What's the grossest thing YOU'VE ever eaten? Do you have a favorite snack (say, peanut-butter-and-pickle sandwiches) that your friends hate? Be warned: Kokopelli may use your stories as inspiration for new pie recipes.

OK, I know this is totally weird, but I like orange peels! I have NO idea why! Honest! The grossest thing I have ever eaten, IF I MUST NAME IT, is MACARONI SALAD. YUK!  Kokopelli, if you make this into a pie, next time I see your puny face in Muse, I will rip your comics page into TINY LITTLE PIECES! So please don't make into a pie, and I will not rip your comics page. Deal?

I've never tried orange peels, but I do enjoy seaweed.  Seaweed with rice, seaweed with rice and meat, or seaweed just eaten as a chip-type-thing.  Delicious.  You should try it!

for some reason it's one of my dad's salmon sandwiches. The salmon smells like canned cat food and it come in a can with the skin, bones and cartilage. :(

TUNA SALAD!! Everyone hates it except me! How can they?? Tuna salad is awesome!! Also, everyone in my family Loves Chicken Salad. It's... how should I say this... NOT my cup of tea. Grossest thing I've ever eaten... FROZEN FISH STICKS. Who's with me? They are nasty. My sister loves them. But then, she's only 9.. maybe her taste buds are just taking an abnormally long time to develop...

@Caroline G. Hate all fish sticks. Especially frozen ones. Plus I know this is weird but I hate fried meat (including fish.) The only time I liked it was in camp (it was deliciously homemade.)

I went to this Chinese restaurant and I had frog legs. I know it sounds really gross. I remember that they were really peppery and not really meaty.

The grossest thing that I have eaten and liked is cow tongue. There is this restaurant in New York that sells Cow Tongue sandwiches. As long as you don't think about what it is that you are eating, it tastes similar to other lunch meats. A little like roast beef, sort of.

So be a pescatarian- a.k.a. you eat fish and shellfish but not birds, mammals, reptiles, etc.

Also, some people are referring to vegatarianism and there are some comments that begin with "I would, but..." Let me try to clarify some options/types of vegatarianism.

1. Lacto-ovo-vegatarians. This is the most common type of vegatarianism in which people eat eggs, dairy products, and foods derived from plants but not any type of animal flesh. ("Ovo" means eggs, and "lacto" means dairy, hence the phrase lactose intolerant... This can also be divided into vegatarians who eat eggs but not dairy products, which would be ovo-vegatarians, and so forth.)

2. Flexitarians. Mostly vegatarian, but occasionally eat meat.

3. Pescatarians. They eat fish, dairy and eggs, but no other forms of meat.

4. Pollo-vegatarians. Birds, dairy and eggs, no other forms of meat.

5. Vegans. They eat no dairy, eggs, or meat. Only things that come from plants...most people probably know that.

These can be combined and changed such as Pollo-flexitarian, etc. There are also more extreme types such as Fruititarians (they only eat fruit) or Raw Vegans, who eat only raw fruits and vegtables.

Most of you probably knew these terms, so I'm sorry if I bored you, but I thought it was an okay opening for the clarification for the people who weren't as familar with the distinction.

Frog legs taste good. They're Chinese, and Turtle soup also tastes really good. Like Chicken. Also, I love crickets. I only ate them once, but they tasted good. Fried, of course.

Has anyone ever tried snails? I had them in San Marten and they were awesome!

i think the grossest thing i have ever had was this soup my dad made. he used a substitute and it was really gross. i forget what it was called though. i don't like pbj either.  and  actually my brother likes pbj and pickle sandwiches. how gross is that?

well, my brother ate a worm. -he thought it was a worm-when he was littler. i've tried some pretty gross stuff that other people like; tuna, mushrooms, peanut butter, etc. but the one thing that may be gross to some people is hot sauce. i practically drink it. i put it on all types of cheesey foods, potato products and straight from the jar.

Every time my mom goes shopping and comes home with hot sauce, my dad says "Ok, here is another HUGE tub of hot sauce that you are going to drink."

Sometimes, she does drink it!!

FIBER GRANOLA BARS ARE NASTY

AND YES, I CAN TASTE THE FIBER!!

Honestly, those things are nasty, and they taste like glue. The only way to eat them without feeling carsick (yes. they make me feel carsick) is to pick out the chocolate chips, scrub off the fiber glue, eat them, and throw the rest of the bar away.

there are so many grose foods in the world, thank goodnis i havent eaten them all. i probably havent even hered of most of them. but my dad; not i thank gosh; hase had camile. he's ate duck and a black pulpy frute that i dount now whats called. i lick pickle and chese sanwiches. and the wurst thing i have ever eaten is( drum role pleas) is burnt outmeal. i think i could gag just thinking about it. ick ick ick. i hate it soooooooo much. beware,if the outmeal smels lick smock, throw it out. i'm beging you so you wont be scared for lice lick me. so maybe i'm exagerating on the scared for life. but it is so descusting.

Ok, well... that has nothing to do with this, besides I am an INVADER ZIM freak.

 Grossest thing I've ever eaten? Probably either raw oyster or  salmon roe. When I tried raw oyster, I swear I spit it out almost halfway across the room! Salmon roe- if you want the same taste just marinate a limp peice of kelp in a bucket of saltwater. Yum.

I have to say, I really don't like fast food. It's gross. I mean, sometimes, like when you're on a road trip, you have to eat it, because there are mainly only fast food restaurants on highways, but I just wouldn't eat fast food any other time.
