Town Hall
Artiste Extraordinaire (March 2011)
While you're reading this month's Muse, don't miss the art for all the dirt! Native American artifacts, tiny shards of pottery, huge stone statues, and Inuit printmaking--we've got it all. What's your favorite type of art? Are you a sculpture afficionado? Do oil paintings make you swoon? Urania thinks mobiles are the loveliest things ever, while Kokopelli--not surprisingly--is obsessed with self portraits.

sooooo you wanna know my favorite type of art? is that any type of art, or specifically art where you dont do physical stuff? cuz if its a broad genre, then definitly DANCE! modern and ballet, specifically. otherwise, i really enjoy doing watercolor, and i love looking at all kinds of painting!

I like plain colored penciled the best. I'm pretty bad at art, though.

i think we should definetly give the native americans their artifacts back, becuase white people have been taking away their stuff for centuries.Settlers took away almost all their land, and scientists are took away their artifacts. It wouldn't be fair not to give something back.

did you mean to write that in the other hall?

First, THANK YOU MUSE EDITORS FOR PRINTING MY LETTER!!! Yay!
Second, I love art. It's awesome. You get to doodle all through class, or paint, or draw, or whatever. It's the best class ever. My favorite is probably drawing, but painting is pretty close... I'm terrible at sculpting. Really. I can do, like, a dog made out of sculpy clay. Maybe. But anything more advanced than that... no.
You're welcome. --Ed.

OK, so here's a question: What is art? Does it have to be visual? See, if you say the word 'art' most people know what you're talking about. but if you ask them to define it they're like "uh...". To me art is something made or done by someone thgat is in one wway or another beautiful and/or interesting.

To me, art is something someone creates to express themselves.
(March 15, 2011 - 4:24 pm)
Interesting... "art is something made or done by someone..." I think nature can be art. Sunrises and sunsets are two huge examples.

Art or the arts? To me, art is sculptures, paintings, etc. The arts are literature, dancing, art (as in sculptures, paintings, etc.), singing, etc. Art is tangible, the arts are a form of human (or non-human, as elephants can also paint!) expression through sound, images, motion, and ideas. Just my view on it.

My favorite art form is origami-and knitting. Yes, knitting. You can kint anything with a set of double-pointed knitting needles.
(March 15, 2011 - 4:19 pm)
I don't really know what type of art I like best. Charcoal drawing is awesome, though! You can get the shading so precise and blended.
(March 17, 2011 - 7:39 pm)
Don`t know about you, but I like colored pencil drawing.
(March 20, 2011 - 4:10 pm)
Well my favorite form of art is architecture....
(March 20, 2011 - 4:02 pm)
I love sketching in pencil...but maybe that's because I really don't know how to do anything else, except watercolor, which I also love. It's sooo beautiful!
(March 27, 2011 - 8:49 pm)
I love anything made with paint. specifically tempara.

I like abstract art.
Also, I like making art on bubble sheets for standardized test, but I never get to because I'm always being graded on my answers! :(

Last quarter in art, we worked on self-portraits using only a pencil and cardstock. Our art teacher is going to use some of them in a promotion for creativity and the district-wide art show with a picture of the standardized tests (materials: pencil and cardstock) and the fabulous drawings of our class (materials: pencil and cardstock.) I think it's really cool that when handed the same materials for different projects, people can create completely varied things. Keep rocking on those bubble sheet art projects, Caroline! Maybe those testmakers will see your genius and figure out there's more in the world to be appreciated for than filling in the correct bubble.

I like the art of music the best and for two reason:
1) Music, of any type or genre, classical to coutnry, makes the world a happier place to live in. When I make music on the piano, I am swept away and all the worrys about a math test and hopes of getting an "A" simply dissapear. Music is our universal language.
2) I'm terrible at drawing, painting, scultping, you name it. I can only do abstract art because it's not supposed to be anything. I can just squigle some lines there and shapes here and be done!
