Pretty Gross

art by Alysse C., age 8, New Hampshire"Mice! Eeeeuuh!" Well, that's probably what you would say to those trash dwellers, but really, mice do have a purpose. The network of tunnels they dig may be frustrating to you, but they are actually helpful. When your flowers, fruits, or vegetables sprout, roots need some help breaking up the soil so they can grow. Well, mice do just that! The tunnels under your flowers give your plants room to grow.
Believe it or not, mice are helpful in other ways. For instance, they are food for owls, cats, and even your pet snake! And, by golly, they're pets, too!

So next time you see a little creature scurrying for shelter, take a moment to remember that these balls of fur have a life, and they might help you also. How about a hand for the mice? Yeah!
