The Blue Sword

by Robin McKinley

Robin McKinley's The Blue Sword is the story of Harry, a young woman sent to a settlement in Damar after her father has died. She is to join her brother and live with the leaders of the settlement. Instead she is kidnapped by the hillfolk, the native people of Damar. Through living with them, she learns things about their ways and about what sort of person she is. If you enjoy this book, you'll probably also like The Hero and the Crown which is also set in Damar, though many centuries before The Blue Sword.
