Hickhikers Guide to the Galaxy (HG2G)

by Douglas Adams (W00t!)

Don't Panic! It's Mostly Harmless.

It's most of the Museblog's favorite book. Our World Dominion plan is named for the 5th book in the trilogy/ What the guide calls the earth.

Best. Books. Ever. If you're a Muser, you have to read this. It's not optional. How will MB bring in a new world order if all its denizens are uneducated? Read it.

Required reading for sure! If you have not read it, do so, or I shall personally hunt you down, hand you my five-books-in-one volume, and hold you at piepoint until you DO read it. :)

Inspired Lunacy, people!

Not to mention all his other work. :)

Good luck with that, TNO!  Just do me one favor--make sure the pie is chocolate cream, and don't hunt me down until either Christmas or summer break--college has me much too busy to read anything non-school related.  I'm still in the middle of the book I started on the plane trip down here two months ago!

Just a question: You wouldn't happen to be a Muser AND a Cricketer, like me? Becaause I've seen your name on the Cricket Chatterbox, too. TELL ME OR I"LL MAKE YOU EAT CAKE. NOT PIE. CAKE.

I'm not the person you're planning to hear from, but I read Cricket, too.  Muse is better.  Also, my little sister gets Ask and my parents get The New Yorker (bo-ring), but that's irrelavent.

Really Funny Book. And speaking of really funny books about alien invasions, you might also like The True Meaning Of Smekday by Adam Rex. I wrote a review about it on page 7.

It may be most of Museblog's favorite book, but I'm afraid I haven't even read it, TMFA! I did see the movie--but I'm sure it completely mutilated the books!

submitted by Luna the Lovely, age 18, museblog
(October 10, 2008 - 9:41 am)

The movie will make so much more sense if you read the book.  Not only that, but you'll get all the in-jokes, so it's a lot more hilarious if you read the books.  And yes, they kind of mutilated it, but it was mutilated properly; that is, the mutilated it in the proper spirit, so essentially it is the same, they just changed some things. Besides, every new version of HHG2G is different; that's part of what makes it so awesome.  Also, the changes made in the movie were made by Douglas Adams himself, so it's a lot easier to embrace them than if some random screenwriter had come up with them.  All in all, I think the movie's vastly underrated, but that's probably because a lot of people who've seen it never read the books.

I really liked the first 3, and #5. It was just SLATFOTF i disliked. This is great series, and everyone should read it. May 25ht is Hitchhiker Day, when everyone carries a towel!

Yeah, what was up with SLATFATF? The romance was so paranoidly strange. The one thing I did like was Wonko the Sane. I have taken some of his advice in my genius Weird Everyone Out Plan.

I love this series- REALLY  funny, and it drives me crazy-by this I mean , when I read this I start spouting nonsense at anyone who cares to listen (and everyone who dosen't). If they ask me why I'm being so crazy I  say, "Forty-two."

I know how you feel-- Mostly Harmless was so confusing, I spent three days banging my head on things trying to understand the Bird Guide. And the whole Horoscope 10th planet thing. Haven't we known that there are things orbiting the Sun beyond Pluto?

PEOPLE OF EARTH, YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!

If you know anything you know that it is not the "Hickhiker's Guide" but the "Hitchhiker's Guide." Also you will know that it was originally a radio serial WHICH WAS WAY WAY BETTER THAN THE BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

I know, right!!  by the way, the 5th book, the person who wrote this review, they said it was What the Guide Calls the Earth- just clearing this up for anyone who is confused:its not actually called that its called Mostly Harmless. Which is what the Guide calls the Earth.

I LOVED THE THEORETICAL IDEA OF FLYING IN SO LONG AND THANKS FOR ALL THE FISH!! DOUGLAS ADAMS IS A GENIUS!!!!                                                                   i wish i didnt live on a mostly harmless planet :l :( .

I read all the books in two days!! I am awesome!!! And I finally know why Muse is called the magazine of Life, the Universe, and Everything: that's the name of one of the books!!!!! I am so happy.... I will try flying sometime, even though it's impossible. (Hey, I have to believe that for it to work, right??? Otherwise it'll never happen by accident!) And yes, our planet is mostly harmless. We're too busy fighting ourselves to notice anything anywhere else, much less plans for our demolition..... ah, well, I'm gonna build a spaceship and fly back to Astrexia soon, so I don't really care. I have to remember to pack my towel...:)

OK. Since no one has bothered to give a proper explanation of this book, I will.

Basically, a guy called Arthur Dent is really mad (some people want to demolish his house). Suddenly, Earth blows up and Arthur is the last human in existence (besides Trillian). Arthur and his friend Ford hitch a ride with the President of the Galaxy on a stolen ship. Then they meet Trillian and Zaphod Beeblebrox (he's the President of the Galaxy) and MARVIN THE PARANOID ANDROID!!!! They land on Magrathea (Arthur saves them by calling into existence a whale and a pot of petunias). There some evil mice try to buy Arthur's brain and you'll have to find out what happens next.

Noobs to HG2G, I hope this clears up any questions you have about WHAT THIS BOOK IS ACTUALLY ABOUT. Any more questions, you'll have to read the book to find out!!!
